1. First things first - a bank account in just 5 minutes
When you live or work abroad, there’s something you need right away: a bank account. This, however, can be tricky. Do you have an address in that country already? Do you have a social security number yet? If not, most banks won’t open an account for you, and the process can take ages.
bunq gives you a full bank account in just 5 minutes, and it’s free for a month. You just need your ID and phone. Best part? We won’t ask about a social security number right away, we know these things take time. Feel free to give us this information throughout the next 90 days.
2. Getting paid like a local
Anyone working abroad - physically or digitally - is probably familiar with this issue. When it’s time to get paid for your beautiful efforts, your bank account’s IBAN doesn’t seem local, and your employer or client may not like that. Local IBANs solve this problem - you can easily pay, receive and hold money with IBANs from multiple European countries, all from one app.
For example, you can have a Dutch IBAN, a German one and a Spanish one, all within bunq. Simply send the details of the Local IBAN that matches the country you currently work in.
3. Juggling multiple Local Currencies
Working or living abroad also means that you may have payments in different currencies. If you’re from the US and working in France, you’ll probably need both Dollars and Euros. With Local Currencies, you don’t need a separate bank account for each currency you use. You can easily convert between different currencies, and you don't have to worry about crazy exchange rates. Click here for a full list of the available currencies in your bunq app.
